NECA Rocky

Rocky is a 1976 American sports drama film directed by John G. Avildsen and both written by and starring Sylvester Stallone.
It is basically a rags to riches American Dream story. Rocky starts out as a club fighter who later gets a shot at the world heavyweight championship.
The film was a sleeper hit and made over $225 million, the highest grossing film of 1976.
It catapulted Stallone into a major star and spawned five sequels: Rocky II, III, IV, V and Rocky Balboa.

Jackks Pacific has been producing the 6" Rocky movies series figures for the past few years and now NECA has also gotten into the act.
Jackks Pacific version has a much beefed up body mainly following their wrestling figures line. NECA version is much more realistic.
I recently got my hands on 2 figures from series 1 , Rocky ("beaten to a pulp" version) and Apollo ("I am still so fresh" version)...:)

The packaging is pretty standard NECA's packaging for all their figures.
Clamshell packaging protects and show off the figures very well but it is difficult to take out.
It has no space wastage and it is great for collectors who do not take their figures out of their packaging.
The packaging design is pretty straightforward and simple and its main objective is to hold the figure.

NECA has always done well in terms of sculpting for the 6" market.
For these figures, I think the sculpting is good and captures the essence of the characters.
Rocky has a better face sculpt as compared to Apollo because I think it is easier to sculpt a face that is battered and torn up. I have seen the clean version of Rocky and it is not that good.
Apollo's sculpt is also good and you can easily identify Carl Weathers who played Apollo.
However the bashed up version of Apollo is even better. Same logic as Rocky I guess...

The body sculpt is also good and a big improvement from the Jackks Pacific's beefed up version.

NECA has never been known for their articulation but these figures surprised me in this department.
Articulation is pretty good and you can actually get good boxing poses out from these figures. This is a plus point as they look awesome being displayed in boxing mode!!!

The painting is decent and clean. I particulally like the details and painting on the boxing gloves.

Overall, nice figures to have that represent an iconic movie in the 70's.

Dude, these are awesome!

One thing I find really jarring though--that torso pivot on Rocky. It just seems to break the sculpt a lot more than I like. BUt like you said, excellent sculpts for the bashed up faces! :)

Hi SirDragonBane, yes you are right the torso pivot is kinda a eyesore but the good sculpt will overshadow it...:)
