Hot Toys StormTrooper

Stormtroopers were the elite soldiers of the Galactic Empire. They served as ever present reminders of the absolute power of Emperor Palpatine. These faceless enforcers of the Empire were considered an extension of the Emperor's will, and thus they often used efficient yet usually unreasonable tactics as a way to keep thousands of star systems throughout the galaxy in line. At the height of the Empire, stormtroopers had effectively become symbols of major authority.
Unlike their predecessors, the clone troopers, they were mostly clad in pure white armor without much identification of which units they were from. Of course, this was due to the Stormtroopers being created in the 1970s where merchandising was not common unlike now where they can sell multiple different clone troopers by repainting the same mould. (well my theory at least).

The Stormtrooper is such an iconic character in the Star War universe but I never had a chance to own a 12" version of it. When Hot Toys finally got the Star Wars licence and announced that they were producing the Stormtroopers I was determined to get it. Even than, I managed to miss the pre-order but fortunately managed to get it in the open market at the pre-order price. So yes, I finally got a Stormtrooper in my collection.

The figure comes in a simple shoe box package.
The design look and feel is very similar to Sideshow's Star Wars packaging.
Like all Hot Toys figures, the figure and accessories are secured in a plastic tray.

The amount of accessories are decent.
We get 7 interchangeable gloved palms, 1 removable belt with leather holster, 1 blaster rifle and blaster pistol. They are all nicely sculpted with good details.

The stand is quite different. I was expecting the color scheme to be on the grey scale side. However we get a bluish red stand, something different.

Hot toys has no problem producing realistic and accurate head sculpts of real actors. Hence they should not have problems handling the sculpting of a Stormtrooper helmet.
I mean Sideshow who sucks at human head sculpts can excel at sculpting clone troopers helmet.
I have tried to compare the figure with film stills and I think it is pretty damn close.
Maybe the helmet can be slightly bigger...just slightly.
I have a few Sideshow troopers and my main bugbear is the loose joints. With Hot Toys, I finally get a figure which can stand nicely on its own!  Finally.

It is a matter of time I get my hands on a 12" Stormtrooper and I am glad I gotten this figure.
Overall it is a good figure from a company that does excellent work.
U can also head over to ToyHaven where Alex compared all the different Stromtroopers from the different companies that produced them.

Hot Toys Little Groot - Guardians of the Galaxy

Hot Toys has picked up the licence to create the 12" figures for the movie Guardians of the Galaxy but will they follow through to create all the Guardians?
They have already released Star Lord and Gamora. Groot and Rocket look like they will be coming soon.
However there are rumblings that Drax will not see the light of day.
I don't think my wallet wants to and neither do I have the space to collect all the Guardians (even though it will look so cool when displayed together). But if you ask me if I only could have one Guardian, which one would I choose?
Not Star Lord, Not Gamora, Not Drax, Not Groot and Rocket. So who you might ask...
Little Groot of course!

This 1/4 scale Little Groot comes in a nice box with a full window so you can see the full figure inside.
The design of the box is also nice with great color.

We get 3 interchangeable head sculpts.
One with a open mouth smile, one with a close mouth smile and one with a little frown.
The sculpt is good with good paint job.
The body is also well sculpted with very good details.
There are no other accessories, just the 3 heads.

The body and arms are made of some rubbery material so the arms and body are movable so that you can recreate Little Groot’s dancing scene.
However, it is not advisable to overbend the arms and body.

Overall, a very cute figure to have even though it is not that cheap considering the lack of accessories, its size and articulation.
