Hot Toys The Amazing Spider-Man 2

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (released with the subtitle Rise of Electro in some markets) is a 2014 American superhero film featuring the Marvel Comics character Spider-Man, directed by Marc Webb and released by Columbia Pictures. It serves as a sequel to The Amazing Spider-Man (2012) and was announced in 2011.
The film received mixed reviews, some critics highlighted Garfield and Stone's performances and the engaging visual style, while others criticized the overuse of characters and subplots. The film grossed $709 million worldwide, becoming the lowest grossing film in the series.
Despite the mixed reviews, I think everyone can agree this is the best suit in the series. In the first
Spider-Man movie, they went for something different for the suit but this time round they went more with the comic version which is more familiar to fans.
Hot Toys has produced both Spider-Man for the 2 movies but I think we can safely say this figure is the best of the two. You can read my review of Spider-Man from the Amazing Spider-Man here.

I love the box art. It does have the comic feel to it.
I am not sure if Hot Toys designed it this way to emphasize the fact that the new suit is much more similar to the comic version. Well just my theory.
There are 2 plastic trays, one for the figure / accessories and the other for the stand / extra hands.
Everything fits nicely and securely.
Hot Toys seldom fail in this department and they don't disappoint for this figure.

This time round, Hot Toys gives us something different for the hands.
To make it aesthetically pleasing, they went with hiding the wrist joint in the suit.
Hence to change the hands, they came out with the design comprising of 2 pieces.
A lower half, that includes the wrist joint, is attached to the costume itself and hidden in the suit and
a upper half of the hand, including the fingers and thumb. Both pieces are held in place with two posts and two magnets.
It's a good idea and very creative but execution is somehow short.
The two pieces do not fit well and there is clearly a gap mid-hand.
I hope Hot Toys continue to perfect the execution as the idea is good.

Another interesting accessory is the outfit Spider-Man wore in one of the scenes in the movie.
It is interesting why Hot Toys chose this outfit as the scene was pretty short but I guess it looked different as we never expect Spider-Man to wear anything over his suit.
There's a nit hat, down vest, scarf, and nylon backpack.
They are really very well done especially the down vest. It is almost perfect.

We get the dynamic stand and the base has a cardboard Spider-Man logo.
I am not sure why they went with a removal cardboard to put over the base but my guess it is for interchangeable purposes.
For those with limited display estate, this will go straight back to the box for storage!

Lastly we get the loudspeaker and 4 web trails which can be attached to the wrist.

There is basically no sculpting in this figure other than the upper half of the hands.
Hence I will talk about the suit instead.
The suit is done really well and the overall classic design makes it even better to look at.
The suit is made of some elastic material which enable better posability.
We have all been raving how articulated this figure is and the suit does play a big part in it.
All over the internet, we have collectors doing extreme but cool poses with this figure. I too had great fun posing and playing with this figure but at the end of the day when he goes back to the display cabinet I will not risk the suit going out of shape with an extreme pose for a long period of time.

Overall, a very good Spider-Man figure.
It checks all the boxes in articulation, accessories and tailoring.
If you only can have one Spider-Man this will have to be it. Of course, who can only have one Spider-Man.

A sick Spider-Man all wrapped up.

I really had fun taking photos of this guy.
A great start to 2015 for my toy collecting!
