M.A.S.K...Laughter is the ultimate weapon!

The 80's was a groovy era that brought us many awesome cartoons and toy lines.
Watching 80s' cartoons again, even though they seem so corny now, bring back a warm and fuzzy feeling!

One of the best cartoon and toy line of the 80's was M.A.S.K and I love their packaging art. Every vehicle had their own art which was so cool.

I just thought I'll have some fun with the packaging art!

You can also read my reviews on my M.A.S.K collection here, here and here.

NECA ED-209 Robocop

RoboCop is a 1987 American science fiction action film.
Set in a crime-ridden Detroit, Michigan in the near future, RoboCop centers on police officer Alex Murphy who is brutally murdered by a gang of criminals and subsequently revived by the malevolent mega-corporation Omni Consumer Products (OCP) as a cyborg law enforcer known as RoboCop.

Many toy companies have produced toys from the RoboCop movies given its cult following.
From 12" figures from Hot Toys to 6" figures from Mcfarlane.
Of course, Robocop usually takes center stage and most of the figures produced are of RoboCop.
However another popular figure that we collectors who like to have is the Enforcement Droid Series 209, or ED-209.
Hot Toys has produced this figure before and there is another on the way. If you have the space and cash, Hot Toys seldom disappoint. However, if you have neither, NECA's version is another good option.

I like the packaging.
Even though it does not have a window and you can't see the figure inside but the picture on the front of the box is awesome and eye catching.
There are also pictures on the other 3 sides of the box, done to catch the buyer's attention!
Not just a pretty box, it also serves its primary purpose of protecting the figure inside.

In terms of sculpting, NECA has been doing well on all their licences.
ED-209 is no different. The sculpting and details are awesome.
Every screw, bolt, wire and buttons are there. Even the stickers are there.
The only gripe I have is the paint ops. There are sporadic paint slop. Not major but minor ones.
I took almost 15 mins in the shop opening the boxes and trying to find a  good piece.
In the end, my "good piece" also had a little smudge at the back.
It's just a little gripe.

NECA has improved leaps and bounds in terms of articulation.
ED-209 does not have the normal articulation of a human figure but I think it has articulations in the right places for good poses.
In the movie, ED-209 already has limited articulation and can't even walk down stairs!

Overall, a very good piece.
Every Robocop fan or even pop culture fan needs an ED-209 in their collection.

More Vintage M.A.S.K (Mobile Armored Strike Kommand)

Ever since I starting collecting M.A.S.K again, I was always on the hunt for great deals for these vehicles.
However it was never going to be easy to get my favourite M.A.S.K vehicles at reasonable prices but eventually I managed to seek out 4 of my all time favourite M.A.S.K vehicles!

Switchblade (series 1)
Switchblade is the vehicle of choice for the leader of V.E.N.O.M (Vicious Evil Network of Mayhem), arch enemy of M.A.S.K.
It is a blue helicopter that transforms into a jet plan

Jet Plan mode

Miles "Wolf" Mayhem is the leader of V.E.N.O.M and the twin brother of Maximus Mayhem. They ride Buzzard in the racing series.
Mayhem's mask is Viper which spills corrosive poison.

Manta (series 3 racing series)
Manta came out in series 3 under the racing series.
Manta is a Nissan 300ZX Z31 that can turn into a plane.
There is the quick escape seat which is usually lost.

Plane mode.

Vanessa Warfield is the driver of Manta. She is V.E.N.O.M's espionage and intelligence agent. She became the unofficial leader in the beginning of the 2nd season. She was one of the few V.E.N.O.M agents to pilot Switchblade regularly when Mayhem was incapable of doing so.
She falls for Brad Turner in the series finale.
She wears the Whip mask which emits powerful whip-like strands of electronic energy.

Raven (series 2)
Raven is a Chevrolet Corvette which turns into a seaplane and submarine.
It has 2 orange blades which drives up the value.

Battle mode!

Calhound Burns drives Raven.
He is a construction and demolitions specialist for the M.A.S.K team.
His day job is an architect and he enjoys raising horses.
He wears the Gulliver mask which can enlarge or shrink objects

Stinger (scorpion) (series 2)
Stinger is one of my favourite M.A.S.K toys and took me quite a while to get it.
It is an orange Pontiac GTO that turns into a tank.
It looks awesome in the tank mode.

Tank mode!

Bruno "Mad Dog" Sheppard drives Stinger.
He is the hand to hand combat specialist and convicted kidnapper who sports an orange mohawk.
